²⁷ Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbor.’”^(A)

²⁸ The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people died.

²⁵ So King Solomon gave orders to Benaiah^(A) son of Jehoiada, and he struck down Adonijah and he died.^(B)

³⁴ So Benaiah^(A) son of Jehoiada went up and struck down Joab^(B) and killed him, and he was buried at his home out in the country.

⁴⁶ Then the king gave the order to Benaiah^(A) son of Jehoiada, and he went out and struck Shimei^(B) down and he died.

The kingdom was now established^(C) in Solomon’s hands.
